I walked on fire!

By · Comments (7)

Yeah…totally awesome.

I am presently at a Tony Robbins conference and
last night we all (about 3,500 people) walked
on fire.

Was actually an incredible experience. It was
white hot burning coals rather than fire, but
that shouldn’t take away from the experience.

Weirdly, I thought afterwards that I had slightly
burned myself, but waking up this morning, I
found that there were no burns there.

So, after from the entertainment value and the
fact that I have now done something which I
can brag about to my friends, what was the
point?

(If you too happen to be here, be sure to say
hi or drop me a note at my helpdesk and we
can chat…)

It was about overcoming fears.

Just before we were about to do it, I was about
to chicken out, but realized that as the point
was to overcome fears, then if I didn’t do this
then it would be unlikely that I would be able
to overcome other fears in my life in the future.

Not sure if that makes total sense, but putting
it the other way, as I did do this, I now feel
that I am 100% able to overcome other fears in
my life and feel like a stronger person for it.

I will speak more about the conference tomorrow,
but for now, let me know a fear that you have
and how you are going to take action today to
overcome it. Or alternatively, let me know about
how you were able to overcome a fear in your
life. Or…if you have done the firewalk
yourself, let me know what you did or didn’t get
out of it.

Keeping it real in an unreal world,

Ben Shaffer

I walked on fire in 1995 with Tony Robbins. It was exciting, and I cannot believe how many friends told me “there is some trick.” I guess it’s important for them to believe that.

Of course, as you know, there is no trick. They build a fire of alder logs, and burn them down to coals. The heat is tremendous, and you spend several hours while that is going on, learning how to manage your mental state, so you will not get burned.

(I still say my power words, “cool moss, cool moss, cool moss” for protection, whenever I need protection or motivation).

I went through, led by Tony himself. It was so great, I went through twice. The fire was so hot, it burned the cuffs off my pants.

The next morning, my feet had a hardness to them, but no burns. I was overwhelmed by a feeling, which I can call back whenever I want. The words in my heart are, “If I can walk through fire, I can do ANYTHING.”

Keep the faith, Ben. Love your stuff.

I walked on fire a few months ago. It was a totally awesome experience. Like you, just before doing it, I nearly chickened out. But…….I’d seen others do it and if they could, then I could. And as you said, it was about overcoming fear. And the realisation that there’s nothing to fear but the fear itself, is a very big one!
    Well done Ben!

Congrats Ben walking on fire can be a really great experience. I did a firewalk in a very private small group back in September and I ended up walking across 3 times. It was a really awesome experience and just reminds you of what great things are possible.

    Keep it up

    Hi Ben,

I haven’t walked on fire yet, but am a fan of Tony’s. His Personal Power II program has really helped me in my life, and I am looking forward to taking in one of his firewalks in the in future (near future).

    All the best,
    Angela

    Hi Ben,

I was starting to get curious when you talked about walking on fire. I did the coals probably about 30 years ago no when Tony was in Detroit. Awesome experience.

Mine was a little different than yours. After I walked on the coals I really wondered if I had done it. So I went back in line and did it a second time.

Talk about messing with ones mind. Well it was truly a fear breaker, heck if one can do that then one can do anything – right.

Have a safe trip back home.

    Hey Ben!

I was at the conference, too, and my brother (who was not at the conference) sent me your link. Too bad I didn’t see it before hand. Glad to hear you were about to chicken out but did it anyway. The whole weekend was, for me, about stepping out of my comfort zone and hanging out there for a while.

I got a TON out of this weekend, and it sounds like you probably did, too. What a great place to create a foundation for change. I can’t wait to get some momentum and get going–putting the ideas into action!

Have a great rest of your trip,
    Molly King
